Quick, think “watch.” What country comes to mind? Probably Switzerland, if you’re like most people. That tiny Alpine country will likely always sit on top in the watch game. But we’re here to tell you that great watches can come from all over. This week, we’re zeroing in on Sweden’s Triwa.

Based in central Stockholm, Triwa makes watches based on a simple philosophy: they design what they want to wear. Can’t argue with that, can you? And the name? It comes from the idea of Transforming The Industry of Watches (catchy) and the desire to “transform the watch into a modern style symbol through a combination of classic silhouettes and contemporary Scandinavian simplicity. “

We took a perusal through their catalog, and our eyes immediately jumped to the Loch Falken.

Triwa Loch Falken

This gorgeous timepiece is Triwa’s “interpretation of 1950’s simplicity,” but we’d probably instinctively call it beauty personified. It’s a stunning blue dial and face enclosed in a 38mm, champagne gold 316L stainless steel case and a beautiful mineral top glass closure. The movement is a Citizen Miyota Japanese Quartz, and the whole package is waterproof to 5 ATM. A 20 mm organic vegetable-tanned leather wrist strap from the Tärnsjö Garveri House of Leather and beautiful champagne gold buckle finish the deal. And yes, if you’re wondering: those watch hands are gold plated.

We think it’s beautiful – the perfect meeting of fashion and simple Scandinavian style. It’s also quite reasonably priced, as are all of this brand’s watches. There’s no reason that watches must be expensive (though that’s not necessarily a bad thing). This young-but-established Swedish brand is just proof.
