On a recent perusal of one of our favorite gear sites (that you should totally be shopping at), we came across a few beautiful pieces of leather – where the quality of the goods was evident from just the pictures alone. Intrigued, we took a closer inspection. They were from a brand that looked totally our style, but we somehow hadn’t yet heard of: Tanner Goods.
Tanner Goods: Made in the USA
Located in Portland, Tanner Goods says their mission is to create timeless goods that are “worth holding on to.” In other words, they focus on quality and craftsmanship, both rare things in today’s world (though steadily making a comeback). Whereas many brands simply focus on getting you good at the lowest possible price, Tanner Goods wants every piece to last multiple lifetimes. This means materials like 10-ounce leather, finishing touches like heavy-duty stitching…and Made in the USA construction.
That’s the kind of stuff we love.
Tanner Goods’ lineup includes everything from handcrafted valet trays to rugged utility belts, with a wide array of wallets, saddle bags and backpacks in between. Our eyes instantly shot to their Classic Belt. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a traditionally styled leather belt, made from 9-ounce vegetable tanned bridle leather. It’s incredibly strong, but supple. Brass rivets and buckle as well as beautiful Cognac and Saddle tan dye finish the ensemble. The style couldn’t be simpler. The quality and expected lifespan couldn’t be better.
Straight Up Utility
Pair that sturdy belt with the aptly named – Utility Bifold for a tried-and-true American EDC kit. This heavy-duty wallet uses 3.5oz vegetable-tanned Meridian English Bridle leather in the Classic Belt’s same classic colors. With four card-slot pockets and two hidden pockets for stashing some extra cash away from prying eyes, there’s room for all your essentials.
So, if you’re into top-notch, old-time, Made in America goods as much as we are, you might just want to check out of some of Tanner Goods’ stuff. We think you’ll like it. You can even pair it with something from some of their other brands, including Tellason jeans and Mazama home goods.
