We’re pretty sure that everybody has always wanted a Segway. They’re fast, fun and maybe just a little bit dorky, but let’s be real – that’s kind of the attraction of it. They’re also not very practical. But if you’ve ever wanted your own Segway-esque device, or have ever dreamed of an electric unicycle, you’re in luck. The Segway One S1 is just that.
While are other options, like the OneWheel + was more of an electric, one-wheeled skateboard, the One S1 is built much more like a unicycle – but without the seat or the pedals. Instead, you merely (learn to) balance on the foot rests, and let the electric motor do the work for you. The motor is powered by two Lithium-ion batteries, which charge full in four hours and have range of up to 15 miles. Top speed is 12.5 MPH.
Of course, the One S1 also pairs with the Segway app, which gives you a New Rider Tutorial, and lets you control the safety features, monitor speed, customize light colors/patterns, among others. The tutorial seems like a must, at least for us, as the idea of riding a unicycle seems a bit daunting – don’t expect to just hop on and off like you’ve been doing it your whole life. The One S1 weighs 25 lbs, and is capable of supporting someone up to 220 lbs. It’s also certified to UL 2272 standards, which is a benchmark for quality and safety in “e-mobility” devices like this. In other words, you’re getting a high-quality, safe ride – provided you learn how to ride it properly. The tutorial seems like a must, at least for us, as the idea of riding a unicycle seems a bit daunting – don’t expect to just hop on and off like you’ve been doing it your whole life.
But if you’re up for a challenge and looking for a fun way to get around, the Segway One S1 is a ton of fun.
