Cullinan might not be the most appealing name for a car, but this is Rolls-Royce, so they can call it whatever they want. The Cullinan is named after the world’s largest Diamond, and is a 6.75-liter, twin-turbo V12 beast that is capable of churning out a massive 563 horsepower, all of which is channeled into an all-wheel drive, all-wheel steer system for a top speed of 155 miles an hour.
Rolls-Royce’s said their rationale in creating the Cullinan was in response to how boring and everyday they’ve become; their director of design, Giles Taylor, says that “the label SUV is now applied to anything with a two-box silhouette and the least suggestion of going off tarmac.” So instead, Rolls-Royce came up with “an authentic, three-box, all-terrain, high-bodied car with a convention-challenging design and absolute capability that would satisfy the adventurous urges of our clients.”
Sounds promising. What else do we know about the Cullinan? Well, it’s a full six feet tall and weighs more than 5800 pounds, making it one of the largest, heftiest SUVs’ in its class. The back seat comes in two different options – separate, comfy seats, or one long bench seat. Though bench might not be the most accurate term for it, seeing how luxurious it is. The cockpit has night vision, an alertness assistant, and the always-important WiFi and entertainment systems. There’s even a four-camera parking assist that gives you a full panoramic view of your surrounding – which you’re going to need for parallel parking, considering the Cullinan’s sheer-size.
Rolls-Royce says this is meant to be a “global car all over the world,” as it will unlock the style and class you expect from the legendary Rolls to those who need a little more versatility in their vehicle. It’ll retail for a cool $325,000. Start saving.
