We’re big fans of anytime a brand decides to mix classic rustic style with modern technology, which is why we find Basin and Range, Backcountry’s in-house line of outdoor clothing, so compelling. Many pieces they make look just as at home in a vintage catalog spread as it does actually out in the backcountry, and has the technical construction and quality to boot. Among our favorites is the Rancher Jacket. This modern take on a classic piece of workwear is constructed from a durable nylon shell, filled with a Primaloft fill that keeps your warm and toasty – without any excess bulk. It’s the perfect jacket for brisk fall days and fun excursions in light snow.
Basin and Range complements the jacket with a lineup of flannel shirts – of various weights – in traditional plaid and heather patterns. They’ve also got some very snazzy fleeces, which are some of most hi-tech pieces, offering stretchy, athletic fits coupled with UPF 30 protection and perfect mid-layer warmth, as well as a selection of pants – stretchy, technical, classic, mountain-inspired – to fulfill any need you’d like. Those are just some of their offerings.
Overall, the brand’s offerings are versatile, and look good whether you’re just out for a morning walk with the dog or casually strolling around the mountain town. Which is great, but there’s always room for less-intense , more-casual outdoor pursuits that don’t require $700 technical jackets.
